Pakistan: Training aircraft crashes in Lahore, pilots injured

A training aircraft crashed in populated upscale locality of Pakistan’s eastern city of  Lahore on Tuesday  afternoon after the two -Seater  developed technical fault  during a training flight.

According to Rescue 1122 Emergency Services, the small plane took off from the Walton Aerodrome at 3.22 p.m. but lost its contact with the Control Tower at 3.33 p.m.  just  after 11 minutes flight.

The plane caught fire before falling over the house of  Shafiq Ahmad in Garden Block of New Garden Town locality as it had come into contact with electric wires, the eye witnesses said.

The pilot Muhammad Faheem and Co-Pilot  Hasham who were able to eject from the plane, received minor injuries. They were relieved after  treatment at a private hospital.

According to Civil Aviation officials,  the aircraft was a Rans S6-ESD-XL Coyote II a Kit and Light Sport Aircraft. The single engine, wooden-propellor was manufactured in 1997 and was registered in London. In 2012 the aircraft was registered in Pakistan.

This is the second crash of a small aircraft in the skies of Lahore over the last six years. On February 2012, a plane crashed over  Model Town locality in Lahore , killing flight instructore Anita Qureshi  and trainee Waqar Ahmad. The plane belonged to Hybrid Technology company owned by Mohsin Syed.
