Guru Nanak Birth anniversary: Pakistan’s Central Bank issues commemorative coin

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)  has  issued a commemorative coin on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism..

Speaking at a ceremony in connection with the issuance of the coin in the port city of Karachi on Thursday, SBP  Governor Reza Baqir said the purpose of releasing the commemorative coin by the central bank is to supplement and be part of national efforts to promote interfaith harmony.

He said the founder of Sikh religion preached the message of peace and brotherhood.

The governor expressed the hope that through this coin his message would  reach every household.

The coin weighing 13.5 gram comprises Copper 75% & Nickel 25% .

Pakistan has also issued a commemorative postal stamp to mark the 550 the birth anniversary of the Guru.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had  inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor, between Pakistan and India on November 9 (Saturday), providing visa-free access to Indian Sikhs to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in District Narowal in Pakistan. A large number of Indian Sikhs made historic pilgrimage, travelling visa-free, to one of their religion’s holiest sites under a landmark deal between the two countries.
